Five questions with: Levi C. Maaia
I am a graduate researcher at the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education at the University of California, Santa Barbara and a research fellow at the Center for Education Research on Literacy & Inquiry in Networking Communities. My research focuses on digital literacies in teaching and learning. As the teacher and curriculum developer of the digital media course at The Anacapa School I am able to work directly with students as well as in academia.
In 2004 I joined Full Channel, a family-owned broadband provider in Bristol County, R.I. Under my leadership the company made it’s first forays into competitive advertising, digital TV retransmission and DVR technology, as the company successfully turned around a declining subscriber base. In 2008 I developed and launched Full Channel’s GreenLink, a renewable energy initiative, through a partnership forged with green energy provider People’s Power & Light. As a result, cable industry trade publication CableFAX honored Full Channel with its 2009 Top Ops Community Service Award.
Prior to my work at Full Channel I founded ComCreations LLC, a web development startup company, in 1996. In 1999 two colleagues and I brought some of the first independent film and video to the World Wide Web with Green Line TV, a video-streaming precursor to YouTube. Today ComCreations continues to provide new media consulting and development to a variety of clients in the public and private sectors.
I like sailing, flying and taking photos. You’ll find shots of my adventures under the photography tab on this site. If you have a few minutes, see what I am up to lately by reading the latest blog posts. Welcome!
